Most of the felt a machine shop needs does not come in a standard size. A washer for a housing built in 1974. A gasket for a cover nobody makes any more. A wick shaped to one particular oil channel. These get cut to the part, not picked off a list.

Felt suits that kind of work because it has no weave and no grain. Cut it in any direction and it behaves the same, and the cut edge will not fray. So it makes no difference which way round the piece came off the sheet.

Wool felt
Washers, gaskets, oil wicks, vibration pads and wear strips, cut to your drawing or copied from the worn part you send in. Thickness and hardness chosen for the job rather than taken off a shelf.

Non-woven felt
Used where a solvent, a coolant or heat would attack wool, and for larger quantities where the price of each piece is what decides the material.

Rubber emery
Bench work: grinding, taking off sharp edges, and cleaning up a surface before a part is measured, assembled, or sent out to be finished.

Sulzer loom spare parts
Spares for Sulzer weaving machines. Not general engineering work — but if your shop looks after looms as well as its own machines, it is the same call to the same supplier.
