Most of the felt in a vehicle is there to stop a noise.

A rattling door trim, a squeaking window, a panel buzzing against its bracket — all of it comes from two hard surfaces touching. Put felt between them and the noise stops. That is why so much of it is fitted where nobody will ever see it.

The other job is keeping dirt out. On slow-moving shafts and pivots, especially on machines working in dust, felt blocks the grit and holds a thin film of oil where it is wanted.

Wool felt
Pads and packing between trim and bodywork to stop rattles. Window channel felt. Sealing washers on slow shafts and pivots. Wool springs back after being squashed rather than staying flat, so it keeps doing its job as the joint settles over the years.

Non-woven felt
The high-volume option. Sound deadening and insulation behind panels, cushioning, and self-adhesive strip for parts that are fitted once and never touched again.

Rubber emery
For the workshop rather than the vehicle. Taking off rough edges and preparing the surface of machined or repaired parts before they are fitted or painted.

Spares for weaving machines. No use in vehicles at all. It is on this list because we supply it, not because this trade buys it.
